The Story
What do you get when you combine the culinary expertise of a professional chef, the artistic vision of a stone sculpture and Jason's design perspective? You get a timeless, French-inspired remodel filled with unique and surprising design elements. When the homeowners first approached Jason, they had some very concrete ideas and inspirations for their project. We collaborated closely to come up with a kitchen that any chef would be jealous of and a basement remodel that included a bar, workout room and entertainment area. The basement guest bedroom was specifically designed for the clients' granddaughters.
The design in the kitchen is centered around the furniture-like island. In the island, we wanted a piece that felt like an antique kitchen table but had the function of an island. Made of sand-blasted white oak, the island has that aged feeling of some piece collected in a Paris flea market. In the basement bar, we again focused on age, but combined it with distinctly contemporary elements. From the mural of old Rome to the reclaimed wood used around the antique mirror (behind the bar) to the contemporary Italian barstools, it is a perfect combination of old and new.
The basement is a study in multi-function. All in one room, we have a workout area, a TV-viewing area, game table and bar. The ceiling-mounted drapery around the workout equipment allows that area to be hidden when guests are visiting.
